A prominent Arizona legislator says he’s “offended” by President Barack Obama’s speech on immigration, including what Obama said about Arizona’s controversial enforcement law.
During the speech, the President said: “In sum the system is broken and everybody knows it.” He laid out his plan for reform, which includes increased border security, a path to citizenship, and punishment for employers who knowingly hire illegals.
Republican Rep. John Kavanagh called Obama’s address in Washington Thursday a “political speech” that, in Kavanagh’s words, “probably annoyed everybody.”
According to Kavanagh, Obama was trying to convince Hispanics that he’s doing something about immigration when he really isn’t.
And Kavanagh says the speech was a disappointment to those who want increased border security and internal enforcement. The Fountain Hills lawmaker also said Obama repeated misinformation about the law.
Kavanagh is a leading supporter of the Arizona law, which Obama criticized as ill-conceived and divisive.
“He began by comparing the illegal immigrants of today, with the legal immigrants that built this country including my grandparents. I find that offensive,” said Kavanagh.
The president also suggested a pathway to citizenship for the estimated 11 million people living illegally in the U.S.

When the open borders lobby runs out of excuses for amnesty, their final resort is to “do it for the children.” Last year Nancy Pelosi told a crowd in San Francisco that “Our future is about our children” and, “Taking parents from their children … that’s un-American.”
When the Speaker of the House considers enforcing our immigration laws “un-American,” it becomes the constitutional duty of the States to stand against illegal immigration. This is why I introduced SB 1070 into the Arizona legislature, which has prompted a much needed national debate about immigration.
Sure enough, we’ve heard the same complaints about separating families. Congressman Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) put together a Congressional panel against SB 1070. He trotted out ten-year-old Catherine Figueroa whose illegal alien parents had stolen identities of American citizens and were detained. She sobbed lines that no doubt were scripted by her handlers: “Please help us, children don’t know what to do without their parents.”
I truly sympathize with Catherine, but her law-breaking parents are the ones responsible for her situation. SB 1070 and all other immigration laws do not split up families. Arizona Jan Brewer very sensibly pointed out that there is nothing stopping the children from going back with their parents to their nation of origin.
But the truth is that these people do not care about reuniting families. They simply use children like Catherine for cheap political gain.

On Cinco de Mayo, five Morgan Hill high school students came to school in red, white and blue, and got a very public lesson in school politics and free speech.
The boys came to Live Oak High School on the Mexican holiday, wearing t-shirts, shorts and shoes emblazoned with American flags.
Around 10 a.m., the assistant principal told sophomore Matthew Dariano he had to remove his bandana, which is against school policy.
But then Dariano said the assistant principal told all him and all his friends to take off their shirts, or turn them inside out, because some Hispanic students were upset and the school feared it would start a fight.

CNN’s Tony Harris discusses the passage of Arizona’s SB1070, the toughest anti-invader bill in the nation, with bill author Russell Pearce and the delusional liar Isabel Garcia, Pima County Public Defender, Mexican government agent (or was at one time), rabid Mexican reconquista fanatic, and head of Coalicion Derechos Humanos, a pro-invasion mob based in Tucson. Garcia claims that illegally sneaking into the country is a “phenomenon,” not a crime, which is absurd
