Woman accused of running fake document mill catered to illegal immigrants
KNOXVILLE — A Johnson City woman faces a January trial on charges she ran a fake document mill catering to illegal immigrants.
Lindsey Rebecca Shepard, 27, has been arraigned on a two-count indictment alleging she made hundreds of fake documents, ranging from driver’s licenses to social security cards to resident alien permits.
According to records filed in U.S. District Court in Greeneville, an informant tipped authorities to the alleged operation. Agencies including the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the FBI raided Johnson’s home and seized various computer-related items, including software used to create the bogus documents.
Shepard allegedly charged fees from $100 to $250 for each document.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Dennis Inman set a Jan. 10, 2010 trial. Johnson was released on her own recognizance after a Friday arraignment.
